Church School Print E-mail

As previously recorded in the words of a former pastor, “Jordan is Education.” Sunday classes for ages two through adult gather to teach, learn, and grow together through the dedicated efforts of our teaching staff. Weekly Bible lessons, songs, retreats, Vacation Bible School, and Lay Academies accomplish this learning process. The weekly Bible truths learned by those in our growing attendance have been extended into our community through mission, drug and alcohol awareness workshops, AIDS outreach programs, visiting our shut-ins, and Christmas caroling to members of our church family and surrounding community.

Weekly Christian teaching and education has been an integral part of Jordan’s life since its foundation 250 years ago. Constantly aware of the teachings of Our Lord, Jordan’s Christian education has grown with many new programs and activities. Some are traditional and all have grown and improved with creative, new, and fresh ideas.

Today, the Church School uses a unified teaching curriculum that provides learning that builds upon the prior year’s teachings. This educational and fun experience prepares our youth for the right of Confirmation, a one-year program for our 8th Grade students taught by our Pastor and Teacher - Reverend Smith.

Music Print E-mail
Music plays an integral part in the worship life of Jordan Church. Many a service leaves the Holy Spirit stirring within you from the uplifting application of scriptures call to make a “joyful noise unto the lord.” The Adult Choir, Youth Singers, Bell Choir, Trumpet Trio, and other instrumentalists, provide Jordan a wide musical diet ranging from the classics to the contemporary.  Jordan is also fortunate to have fine accompaniment instruments. The Steinway grand piano in the nave, a three-manual Allen digital organ, and a Yamaha “Clavinova” digital piano.  Throughout the church year, the dedicated musicians of these organizations help to heighten the meaning of the worship services. Their devotion and talent are a special blessing to our church.

Adult Choir

The devoted members of the Adult Choir form the backbone of the music department, offering weekly anthems and special programs and cantatas at Christmas and Easter. Many adult choir members also perform double-duty in the Bell Choir or as instrumentalists.

Youth Singers

The Jordan Youth Singers perform anthems on an average of twice a month and delight the congregation with their enthusiasm and talent, often eliciting spontaneous applause for their efforts.

Bell Choir

The Bell Choir performs approximately six times throughout the church year and especially during the festive services of the holiday seasons. This musical organization is, perhaps, the most demanding in terms of musicianship, since every member rings a distinctively different part. In essence, each member is playing a solo, yet working together as a team. In addition, a wide variety of ringing techniques must be mastered. The result is a treat for ears and eyes.

Cherub Choir

The Cherub Choir consists of 22 children between the ages of 3 through 2nd grade who enjoy singing praises to God. They gather around the piano to learn the words, melody and hand motions to their songs. Currently, the children are under the direction of Kelly Moneymaker and perform once a month at the 10:30 service. Their enthusiasm, angelic voices and bright smiles bring joy to all who hear them.

Trumpet Trio

Several times a year, the Trumpet Trio augments Jordan services. These musicians add an air of power and majesty to the hymns they accompany. They also perform stirring preludes and offertories for a variety of holiday services.

Special Music

A most recent addition to the musical groups at Jordan is an instrumental group of drums, guitars, and keyboard. Although this group performs less frequently than the other choirs, it makes a joyful noise that serves as the perfect accompaniment for Youth Sunday or special contemporary anthems. On other occasions, both as accompanying instruments for the choirs or as solo offerings, the beauty of the strings of violin and cello as presented by two young, gifted musicians blesses Jordan.

ArkALMIGHTY Print E-mail

ArkALMIGHTY is a good deeds program that matches up the needs in your congregation with the talents and skills of the members of your church. Gathering the needs of your attendees, these requests are compiled on a Craigslist-type website administered by your church. Then, the members of your church can easily search through the needs and find ways they can help.

Fools for Christ Print E-mail
Jordan’s Fools for Christ are Christian clowns who share the message of the Bible through skits and drama rather than words.  As the clown puts on the white face, the death mask, he prays that those things that are un-Christ-like would die in him.  Jesus died for us on the cross and in remembering this, the clown gives up his voice.  As the clown puts on his make-up, the color represents the new life in Christ.  The clown’s intent is not to perform but to lead the congregation to worship God.  Each year the group uses the Vacation Bible School material and music to create new skits.  Jordan’s clowns try to bring the congregation joy as God intended us to have.  We lead worship on the Sunday following VBS and when invited to other churches.  Our group is intergenerational and announcements in the bulletin invite anyone with an interest to join us.
