The story is told of a golfer who asked his friend, "Why are you so late?" The friend rep lied, "It's Sunday. I had to toss a coin between going to church or playing golf...and it took 25 tosses to get it right!"

The Christian life and our relationship to the church is not a spectator sport, but requires full participation and involvement. An author once noted to have a land flowing with milk and honey someone will have to milk the cows and tend the hives. Visions must have legs. Churches need the commitment and dedication of their members.

A longtime church member suddenly stopped coming to worship. The Pastor made a home visit and found the member sitting quietly in front of his fireplace in a rocking chair. The member greeted the Pastor and then returned to his silence staring at the fire. The Pastor sat with him for quite some time with nothing being said.

Then the Pastor got up, took the tongs, and picking up a glowing ember placed it on the hearth n front of them both. The Pastor sat down and continued with the silence as the ember glowed...but slowly lost its brilliance and heat. When the ember was just about out the Pastor took the tongs and returned the ember to the fire where it once again glowed brilliantly.

As the Pastor got ready to leave the member walked him to the door and replied.."Thanks for the sermon. I'll see you in church Sunday."
