“…The fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above.”
                                                               – John Fawcett, 1782

Fellowship is one of the very important things in the Church. If you have fellowship, you have a good Church. If there is no fellowship, then there is nothing worthwhile. This is indicated in the dealings with the Church at Ephesus in Revelations. This church was strong in doctrine, and strong in discipline, but the Lord threatened to remove the candlestick quickly before they needed to return to the first love, which means fellowship was low.

I think the doctrine of the Church is a great and wonderful thing and should attract great numbers of the Lord's people into the Church, yet the thing that really draws people to a good church is fellowship. Closeness between the members, a feeling of concern one for another is an essential ingredient in the church. When you have it there are very few problems. Or when problems do arise, they are quickly handled. But without it, all the works of the flesh take over, and there is a constant bickering among the members.

Jordan takes fellowship very seriously and you will always find our doors open with a social, our weekly coffee hour and food.

Excerpt from Elder Afton E. Richards, published in The Banner of Love, May 2003

The incentive of this fund was to target the needs of extreme hardship that may arise among Jordan members. It functions best when sympathetic members of the parish accompany the dollars. The recently organized Called to Care Committee is the perfect partner to put human faces on the Home Benevolence Fund.

On January 6, 2000, approximately twenty members met with Rev. Allan Kramer-Moyer to initiate a caring program for the shut-ins of Jordan. In six succeeding sessions, these individuals were trained for a visitation program.

Currently, the shut-ins are visited monthly. As the need arises additional members are added to the visitation lists. An added service offered by this group is “house-sitting” at times of funerals. Both these activities may be expanded.

Implementing the vision and mission of Jordan requires various resources. The fundraising committee helps to coordinate and organize a variety of means of fundraising efforts. It is our goal that these expressions of stewardship be fun and uplifting while celebrating fellowship among our members and the community in which we live.

Blessed with a spacious social hall and modern commercial kitchen, the faithful workers of Jordan’s Banquets committee help to expand the goal of fellowship through the breaking of bread among the congregation. They provide many meals to church members and the community at large. They also prepare and serve meals to groups and individuals that rent the social hall for special meals, wedding rehearsals and receptions, showers and private parties.

This is a recent addition to Jordan, which came out of a love of piecing and quilting and a desire to minister to our church. Thanks to our dedicated women who have completed three quilts and other items, we have been able to purchase new offering plates and candles for use in our sanctuary. The quilters meet Monday evenings at 6:30 PM in the adult classroom.

In looking for other ways to serve our Lord, we discovered a new ministry for those in need of prayer and comfort. This is our Prayer Quilt ministry. We meet periodically to assemble the prayer quilts. When a quilt is requested it is placed in the sanctuary for us to pray and knot for whomever has a need. We have expanded this to include our members who are serving us abroad to secure a lasting peace. We are also preparing smaller quilts, which will be given to our shut-ins.

Yet another new ministry was initiated this summer to commemorate through a pieced cross, our infants becoming part of God's flock through Baptism.

Recently we have been sharing the news about forming a “Prayer Quilt Ministry” here at Jordan. We are now “Jordan’s Prayer and Squares.”

A quilt is made and laced with heavy thread. Members of the Congregation tie these threads with a square knot after the service. As each knot is tied, a silent prayer is offered for someone in need. This quilt is a gift of love and prayer. The emphasis is on Prayer and not the quilt. It is a statement of our faith in God and our belief in His power to comfort, strengthen and heal. They meet on Monday’s at 6:30 in the adult classroom.

For the past 25 years the Lay Fellowship has striven to serve the church and our God in ministries and worship. Through the annual confirmand reunion, they bring many home to their church. They host the annual BBQ Chicken Sales and the Holiday Bazaar, and they faithfully prepare our Easter Breakfast as well as the luncheon for the annual Congregational Meeting. They also run different day and overnight trips.

Most recently they presented the moving “The Diary of a Church Pew” through the Thank Offering Service. The Lay fellowship is a truly vital organization of Jordan.

In 1991 senior members met for an exploratory breakfast. Was there interest in forming such a group? As a result, the 3M’s came into existence. The More Mature Members organization has continued to grow.

Basically, this group meets for fellowship as evidenced by their monthly breakfasts; their summer picnics, their Christmas banquets, and trips. Programs of special interest to seniors are frequently presented.

This group, open to all over the age of fifty, has been under the leadership of Elaine Kroninger, Harriet Pohl, and Faith Gensler.
