“Inspiring Generosity” is what the Stewardship Committee sees as its primary goal. The Committee is convinced that stewardship will increase only as Jordan’s members are provided ways to grow their faith and, as they do so, respond from their abundance to support Jordan’s mission. Consequently, the Committee continually seeks ways to expand the faith journey of Jordan’s members. A United Church of Christ publication put it this way: “The real answer to what the church needs, and its witness to the world, comes not from overcoming scarcity but from discerning and sharing abundance. The driving force of the church… is the spirit or disposition of Jesus and the experience of abundant life that this manifests and evokes.”

Stewardship Committee members are Laury Brown, Sara Harting, Glenn Lichtenwalner, Carole Deutsch, and Glenn Lichtenwalner. John Harting is the Committee chairperson. We meet the second Tuesday of the month in the library.

This year our Committee members were very active in planning and implementing the “Yes We Can” financial campaign which raised $240,000 in donations and pledges to reduce Jordan’s mortgage to a manageable figure. For the remainder of 2003 the Committee will challenge several of Jordan’s members to share a brief testimony during worship services about why their faith and/or Jordan is important to them. Hopefully, this will lead more of our members to consider the strength of their own faith and find avenues within Jordan’s program to strengthen it. A special four week program concerning Biblical references to stewardship, and their applications for us today, is planned for December. This series will be held during the Church School hour. A stewardship theme for the Advent season is still under discussion.

The Stewardship Committee always welcomes new members from within our church family. If you have a concern for the spiritual and financial well-being of Jordan and would like to join our group, please be in touch with any member of our Committee.
